Troubleshooting Pool Problems

WATER BURNS YOUR EYES OR SMELLS OF CHLORINE
Possible Cause:
- Incorrect pH level
- Chloramine build-up
Correction Procedure:
- Backwash and rinse the filter
- Adjust pH level to 7.2 -7.6
- Add 1 bag of PoolBrite Month Mate Shock Xtra Blue/3 cups (500g) Clarity or 1.5 cups (500g) Month Mate Granular Xtra Blue
- Run the pump and filter for 8-10 hours
- Test and maintain ideal chlorine level, 1-3 ppm

CLOUDY WATER
Possible Cause:
- Incorrect pH level
- Insufficient chlorine
- Filtration/circulation problem
Correction Procedure:
- Backwash and rinse the filter
- Correct the pH level to 7.2 – 7.6
- Add 1 bag of PoolBrite Month Mate Shock Xtra Blue/3 cups (500g) Clarity or 1.5 cups (500g) Month Mate Granular Xtra Blue
- Add 250ml PoolBrite Water Clarifier
- Run pump and filter for 12-24 hours
- Test and maintain ideal chlorine level, 1-3 ppm

BLACK ALGAE
Possible Cause:
- Incorrect pH level
- Insufficient chlorine
- Filtration/circulation problem
Correction Procedure:
- Use an algae brush on infected areas
- Backwash and rinse the filter
- Correct the pH level to 7.2 – 7.6
- Add 2 bags of PoolBrite Month Mate Shock Xtra Blue/6 cups (500g) Clarity or 3 cups (500g) Month Mate Granular Xtra Blue
- Add 1 litre PoolBrite Month Mate All-In-One Algaecide
- Run the pump and filter for 12 hours
- Test and maintain ideal chlorine level, 1-3 ppm

GREEN POOL WATER / GREEN ALGAE
Possible Cause:
- Incorrect pH level
- Insufficient chlorine
- Filtration/circulation problem
Correction Procedure:
- Backwash and rinse the filter
- Use an algae brush on infected areas
- Correct the pH level to 7.2 – 7.6
- Add 2 bags of PoolBrite Month Mate Shock Xtra Blue/6 cups (500g) Clarity or 3 cups (500g) Month Mate Granular Xtra Blue
- Add 1 litre PoolBrite Green-Go
- Keep pump and filter running and backwash after 24 hours
- Test and maintain ideal chlorine level, 1-3 ppm
Note: If problem is severe use Alum Powder to drop the algae to the floor and manually vacuum to waste.

GREEN OR BROWN WATER / STAINING
Possible Cause:
- Incorrect pH level
- Incorrect Total Alkalinity
- Metal based chemicals
- Staining from algae or debris
Correction Procedure:
- Backwash and rinse the filter
- Add 1 litre PoolBrite Metal Magic
- Correct the pH level to 7.2 – 7.6
- Test and correct the Total Alkalinity, ideal level 80-150ppm
- Brush stains daily for 7 days
Note: It is advisable to chemically clean the filter sand with PoolBrite Filter Cleaner after treating any pool problems. Follow label directions.
